<image:caption>In the past, the symbol “#” was associated with jeong (井), meaning “well.” As a well provided the water necessary for everyday life, it symbolised life itself and served as an essential source of survival. Today, the same symbol is understood as hashtag(#), which has become equally embedded in contemporary life through social media. Though similar in form, these two meanings belong to very different systems of life and communication.<br />
<br />
This work focuses on the gap between these meanings, tracing how the symbol “#” can recall the past while affirming existence in the present. The hexagonal pattern on the ground floor reinterprets traditional Korean dancheong motifs and symbolises the contemporary well (#), while the second-floor object, Sungnyemun, marks the centre of the gap between past and present. Like the well in the past, Sungnyemun has remained a central presence in the city and in the lives of its citizens. The reference to 2018, the tenth anniversary of the fire at Sungnyemun, adds another layer to the work’s meaning.</image:caption>

While death is an inevitable and universal experience, contemporary society continues to treat it as distant and separate from daily existence. As a result, there are few spaces in the city where grief, loss, and reflection can be collectively felt. Rather than confining death to fixed memorial typologies such as cemeteries, the project proposes a more open relationship between life, death, and the city. By inserting spaces of reflection into an infrastructural void, it reimagines architecture as a medium for collective contemplation embedded within everyday movement.</image:caption>

Despite its centrality, the river is often experienced from a distance, while bridges function more as edges than places of encounter. At the same time, the site has become associated with social isolation, revealing a tension between connection and disconnection. In response, the project introduces a new pedestrian flow beneath Dongjak Bridge, transforming residual space into a place for walking and reflection.<br /></image:caption>

                                            <image:caption>Organised as a sequence of spatial experiences, the project gradually shifts from activity to introspection. Visitors enter through a ramp and encounter an active fountain, before moving through spaces that allow both individual reflection and shared presence. In the central zone, compressed and fragmented spatial elements—angled plates, narrow columns, and controlled views—create a moment of sensory transition. This movement through compression, pause, and release invites contemplation as something embedded within the city, rather than separate from it.</image:caption>

                                            <image:caption>&#x3C;The Flow of Life&#x3E; is an architectural proposal that rethinks how death might be acknowledged within everyday urban life.

                                            <image:caption>&#x3C;Domuji&#x3E; begins with a contradiction within human nature: the desire to belong somewhere, and the impulse to exclude others. Throughout history, what could not be understood was often turned into something monstrous. Today, monstrosity no longer appears as a fixed category, but in subtle and fragmented forms directed toward those who seem unfamiliar, unreadable, or outside the boundaries of what is accepted.<br />
     <br />The work takes its title from the Korean word <i>domuji(도무지)</i>, meaning that nothing can be done and there is no way forward. One possible origin of the word is <i>Domoji(塗貌紙)</i>, a method of torture used during the Joseon Dynasty in which wet paper was layered over a prisoner’s face until breathing stopped. Quiet and almost without trace, such a death disappeared into the continuation of everyday life.<br />
     <br />From this reflection emerges Domuji, a figure suspended between human and nonhuman, presence and disappearance. Its body appears exposed, yet bound by something unseen; the thin membrane surrounding it seems turned inside out, too fragile to protect it. By naming this figure Domuji, the work draws attention to the fragile boundary between “it” and “us,” and to the quiet ways in which social structures push a being beyond the limits of the social world.</image:caption>

                                            <image:caption>&#x3C;Digital Acropolis&#x3E; examines contemporary media through the form of architecture. In the past, buildings such as temples and theatres functioned as shared spaces of communication, where collective experience shaped social and political life. Today, however, media is no longer tied to a physical site, operating instead through digital systems that are fluid, fragmented, and endlessly reproducible.<br />

<br />The work reinterprets the Parthenon as a contemporary media structure. Reconstructed with industrial materials, the temple becomes a symbol of mass production and mediated perception. Its transparent surfaces layer light and image, while the content within continuously shifts and drifts away from its original meaning.<br />

<br />At the centre, a text-based digital video—one of the most direct forms of communication—is played. Yet from the outside, it becomes fragmented and unreadable. Through this transformation, the work reflects on how contemporary media has moved away from shared sensory experience, becoming instead a system of distortion and distance.</image:caption>

Yet the objects inside resist uniformity. Derived from my body, senses, and traces, they take the form of tools and devices—futuristic relics that move against the logic of modern civilisation, evoking something more primal and originary. Even within spaces designated as safe, freedom remains conditional. This work collects texts encountered along an actual route through a campus building and reconstructs them as an experimental book. Beginning with the language of access and control at the building’s boundary and ending with welcoming phrases such as “EVERYBODY IS WELCOME” and “SAFE AREA,” the work reveals that safety and inclusion are granted only through compliance with a sequence of rules and instructions. Each coloured acrylic page represents a different type of space, while the transparent acrylic sheets between them mark moments of spatial transition. Turning the pages becomes a compressed experience of architectural movement through the hand.</image:caption>

Although it appears as a single house from the outside, the viewer must open its narrow structure three times to reach the innermost image. This repeated act of opening becomes a gradual approach toward a private space, reflecting both the physical and psychological distance between the city and the home. At its deepest layer, the work reveals an image of a person lying in bed in a dark room, withdrawn from the outside world.</image:caption>

                                            <image:caption>&#x3C;Threshold&#x3E; focuses on the moment when a home comes into being, that is, the point at which the boundary between the city and the home begins to operate sensorially. In the city, the door exists as a repetitive, anonymous, and closed surface, yet at the same time it is also a thin but decisive boundary that separates inside and outside, public space and private space.<br />
      Through elements such as the door, frame, mirror, and reflection, the work constructs the moment in which the interior of the home is not directly revealed, but instead becomes perceptible. The viewer stands before a closed surface, yet through reflection and depth encounters a sense of space that seems to exceed a simple structure. What emerges here is not a literal representation of an interior, but something closer to a psychological and sensory dimension in which the idea of home is formed. In this way, the viewer experiences a brief yet decisive moment of transition.</image:caption>
