Pages of Control

This project began by recording the instructions, warnings, and directional signs encountered along a route through a campus building. The collected texts were organised according to rooms, thresholds, and transitional spaces, then transferred onto colour-coded acrylic sheets and bound into a sculptural book. Turning its pages compresses the experience of moving through architecture into a sequence held in the hand.

Beginning with “PUSH TO OPEN” at the entrance, the route unfolds through the language of access, control, risk, responsibility, and prohibition. By the end, phrases such as “EVERYBODY IS WELCOME” and “SAFE AREA” appear almost as permissions granted only after the preceding instructions have been followed. The work considers regulation as a spatial device and asks how safety and freedom are organised through architecture and to whom they are made available.
