Is ‘freedom’ really free? We may appear to live freely, yet our movements are shaped by constant instruction, signage, and control. Even within spaces designated as safe, freedom remains conditional. This work collects the texts encountered along an actual route through a campus building and reconstructs them as an experimental book. The sequence begins with the language of access and control at the building’s boundary, and ends with welcoming phrases such as “EVERYBODY IS WELCOME” and “SAFE AREA”. In doing so, the work reveals that safety and inclusion are granted only after passing through and complying with a series of rules and instructions. Each coloured acrylic page represents a different type of space, while the transparent acrylic sheets placed between them indicate moments of spatial transition, or liminal spaces. Turning the pages becomes a compressed experience of architectural movement through the hand, rather than through the body moving directly through a space larger than itself.
우리의 ‘자유'는 어디로부터 오는 것인가? 우리는 자유롭게 살아가는 것처럼 보이지만, 우리의 움직임은 끊임없는 지시와 표지, 통제에 의해 형성된다. 안전하다고 규정된 공간 안에서도 자유는 여전히 조건부로 주어진다. 이 작업은 캠퍼스 건물 안에서 실제로 이동한 동선을 따라 마주한 문장들을 수집하고, 그것을 한 권의 실험적 책으로 재구성한다. 시퀀스는 건물의 경계에서 시작되는 출입과 통제의 언어로 시작해, “EVERYBODY IS WELCOME”과 “SAFE AREA”와 같은 환영의 문구로 마무리된다. 이를 통해 이 작업은 안전과 포용이 일련의 규칙과 지시를 통과하고 따르는 과정을 거친 뒤에야 주어진다는 사실을 드러낸다. 색으로 구분된 각각의 아크릴 페이지는 서로 다른 유형의 공간을 나타내며, 그 사이에 놓인 투명 아크릴 시트는 공간이 전이되는 순간, 즉 경계적 공간을 의미한다. 페이지를 넘기는 행위는 신체보다 큰 공간을 직접 이동하는 대신, 손을 통해 건축적 이동을 압축적으로 경험하게 한다.
